I'm joining in on Lisa-Jo baker's 'Five Minute Friday'.
The rules are pretty simple. One word. Five minutes of writing. No editing.
See
I see you everyday.
But do I really?
I see your tired eyes trying to adjust to the light.
I see you roll out of bed and get ready for the day.
But do I see you?
I see you come into warm up from being out in the cold.
I see you kick the dirt off your boots.
But do I see you?
I see you rest your head.
I see you swaddle up in you blanket.
But do I see you?
I see you laugh and play.
I see you cry and hurt.
But do I see you?
I didn't see you.
Did I see that the tired in your eyes are from the long hours that you've worked?
Did I see the rolling out of bed is from another sleepless night?
I didn't see you.
Did I see you coming inside to warm up because you've been cutting wood for the house to stay warm?
Did I see you kicking dirt off your boots was from digging out the frozen drain so our house wouldn't flood?
I didn't see you.
I saw you rest your head, but got so mad that it wasn't me.
I saw you swaddle up in the blanket, but was too mad to hug you.
I didn't see you.
Did I see how much effort it took for you to laugh and to play?
Did I see why you were hurt?
I saw you with my eyes but I didn't try looking with my heart.
Visiting from Five Minute Friday. Wow!!! How many times have I looked at my husband, relaxing on the couch as chaos abounds with four children, and I am trying to prepare dinner and gotten angry? Hmmmmm.... Thank you for the reminder that I need to be thankful for everything he does each day for our family, instead of getting angry that he's not helping "right now." Very powerful thoughts for the day.
ReplyDeleteOh man. Thank you for sharing this... I am so guilty of not "seeing" my husband; not trying to understand his plight in these busy days. Awesome reminder.
ReplyDelete{Coming over from FMF, too!}
Such a good post and perfect timing for me to read. Glad I visited from FMF!
