Chooses aren't always black and white. We try to make them that way but in reality, in real life, they just aren't. Life is a journey and sometimes on that journey you come to a crossroad. The crossroad isn't like in the Disney movies either. One direction is a beautiful spring day, green grass and flowers blooming and birds chirping. The other direction is black and thunderstom-ish, with weeds and crows cawing. In real life crossroads sometimes look the same in both directions, a mirror of itself. When that happens you do the 'what if game', "I went this way but what if I would have gone that way". Sometimes there is one little difference from the get go that makes you think "A ha! This is the obvious way". Only to find out that no, it wasn't.
Sometimes there is a mountain of an obstacle in the way in one direction and the other is a clear path. Generally, for me, I have to climb over some obstacles before I get to the smooth path. Even when I get to that smooth path, there will be little pebbles thrown my way. The pebbles make me question what I have done, maybe I should turn around, I thought I had the worst part over. I look at those pebbles now as a reminder. Look at what I have been through to see this obstacle as a mere pebble. That to me is a reassurance that I've been given the right path.
It's not a snap of the finger, "This is the way". Prayer, thought, consideration go into my chooses. My husband had a very smart friend tell him "Hard right over an easy wrong". Sometimes just sometimes those are the words that you have to keep in mind, even when you really don't want to.

Small
I'm joining in on Lisa-Jo baker's 'Five Minute Friday'.
The rules are pretty simple. One word. Five minutes of writing. No editing.
Small
Our family went on a family vacation recently. One of our stops was Ripley's Believe It Or Not. We had a blast. There were so many different things to check out. The boys got a kick out of everything there.
Towards the end of the tour you come to a room that has small intricate carvings, paintings, detail on things you would never... well, believe. There's a cobweb that has a painting on it. A butterfly with a beautiful picture painted on it. To the side there is a case with a painting on a fly, Dracula carved into a toothpick, "The Beatles" portrait on a grain of rice, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy's portraits on a grain of rice and this. The picture above isn't great, I took it threw a magnifying glass with my phone all the way zoomed in.
"Painted on a small coin, without the use of magnification, this replica of DaVinci's renowned painting "The Last Supper" was created specifically for Robert Ripley by a Brazilian street artist using a one haired brush!"
I think this part of the tour was by far my favorite part.
Just take a step back and to realize that the smallest things can often have the biggest meaning.

The rules are pretty simple. One word. Five minutes of writing. No editing.
Garden
I don't garden. I have two plants that I have been able to keep alive for a few years now and I am beyond proud of that. I want a green thumb. I really do. That's just not me though, I've literally killed a cactus, they said it was impossible to do. Well... it's not.
My Grammie, Gram and Gramps all had green thumbs. Grammie had the most beautiful flower gardens. She grew blueberries and strawberries. Gram grew beautiful flowers inside and outside. Always knowing just the right time to bring plants in so they wouldn't get cold. Or just the right time to plant bulbs. Gramps grew vegetables. He would grow the biggest tomatoes you could ever imagine. They were beautiful and delicious.
Maybe it was their tender care that they took with each plant. Maybe it was the way the would nurture each little growing bud. I don't know if it was more beautiful watching them grow these beautiful plants or seeing the beauty that grew in them when their plant would truly shine.
They used their talents to share that love. Sending cucumbers, tomatoes and flowers home with you on each visit. Taking a bouquet to a friend.
Finding their talent and sharing was a beautiful thing to watch.

Write
I'm joining in on Lisa-Jo baker's 'Five Minute Friday'.
The rules are pretty simple. One word. Five minutes of writing. No editing.
The past few days we have had snow days! I remember way back when, waiting to see your school name scroll across the bottom of the screen. SNOW DAY! The excitement! Oh man and if you found out you didn't have school the next day BEFORE you got your homework done that was like a double score! A snow day on a Friday, even better!
I write all this as we celebrate our fourth snow day in a row. There are toys scattered everywhere. There are snacks being eaten that really shouldn't be, but it's a snow day. Everything seems to be okay on a snow day.
We brought the air mattress out in the middle of the living room. Built a fire in the fireplace and watched a movie or two or three.
We bundle up to go play in the snow for five minutes just to unbundle and be inside for ten minutes. To then bundle back up and play outside for ten minutes and unbundle to be inside for five minutes. This has been going on for days. The wet footprints tracking to the hot cocoa and then the bundle of outside clothes.
Trying to write this down, capture these moments in a few words, in a few minutes. I don't think I'm really good enough for that challenge. Yet, I have to try. I want to write as best I can about the moments, the truths, the not so great moments that I've learned from. It's not perfect, my writing or my moments but that's how it is.
Sam (8)- I like to write.
Lou (7)- I wrote an Angry Birds book.
Rian (4)- Write me up.

Shenanigans {Snow}
We currently have about eleven inches of snow on the ground. Yeah. Snow is making an appearance in our neck of the woods.
As we were driving around we came up with our snow grr list. You know like every time it snows I don't like this...
- How some states frown on how this state shuts down or does not shut down. Here's the thing that Grrrs me... some states naturally get snow often and a lot so they have road equipment to take care of it. When a state gets snow that doesn't get dumped on all the time it takes a while to get everything cleared out. I know this is a simple fact here but for some reason every winter this one never gets thought of until much later.
- First day of snow. Yeah, so winter has been kind and we haven't had to drive around in snow all year and we are getting our snow driving shoes back on. Fine. HOWEVER Grr. If you know you are going to drive slow and that's fine... DRIVE IN THE SLOW LANE. If you're passing or their is obvious snow obstruction of some sort makes since to get in the other lane. Otherwise scoootch overrr!
- Salt. Coming from a place that didn't get snowed on heavily we didn't have to buy salt to salt places that are more slippery and you want to not be slippery. Salt is an amazing invention and I love using. Except GRRR... when people don't use it. It's there folks sprinkle a little something on the ice already!
- Grr... the snow that falls in between your boot and your pants.
- Grr... the snow that falls in between the back part of your neck and your shirt. Really Double Grr to any snow falling in between the layers of clothing and warm body.
- Again coming from a state that didn't regularly get snow Grr on the ice scrapers that don't have the fancy glove thing attached to it! I used to laugh at that... until I had to start scrapping the car out of ice and snow.
- Grr... on snow in the face.
Don't get me wrong I would gladly take winter days over summer days... I think. I like the bundling up and hot cocoa. Snow gives us some amazing family time.
We had a snow day or two together so our family hunkered down, built a fire in the fireplace and got the air mattress out and watched movies. It's simple pleasures like that that make the Grrs melt away... hopefully melts all that snow away too.
Stay warm!
