Friend
I'm joining in on Lisa-Jo baker's 'Five Minute Friday'.
The rules are pretty simple. One word. Five minutes of writing. No editing.
I'll admit it... I totally avoided writing this post. One, I had a ton of things I wanted to say. Two, I wanted the post to be one that you read and just were drawn to cry because of the beauty. Three, when I started to think of all the things that came to mind with the word friend, I started to cry.
See the thing is a friend a real true friend, to me, is family. Family is sort of who God thought "Hey, I know how to make you a well rounded person. I'm going to give you some very wise Grandparents, silly Aunts, wild Uncles, embarrassing Parents, goofball Brothers and maybe a serious Sister or two."... at least I'm pretty sure that's what he did with my family. Friends on the other hand... that's the family that you get to pick out.
Friends, they are the family that God was like "Hey, now that you have this family that I made for you. I'm gonna throw you a bone to deal with them. Here are some really cool peeps that you should meet". Again, I'm pretty sure that's what happened.
Through the years you make friends. Some last a few months, a few years and some a life time.
I'm not sure who it was but some dude or dudette said that if you can count your friends on one hand consider yourself blessed. In high school I was all like, "BAM! I have 164 friends, take that". Then in college I upped some more. I lost a few and gained some... it's sort of like weight. Those that didn't really matter I lost but those that you really wanted to lose they stuck around. The ones that you really wanted to keep, let's be real the boob weight, you don't even think about loosing.
Then life really started happening and 'friends' start dropping, unlike weight. That is when friends really shine. You go through real life events and even if they aren't sure that they agree with your decision, you'll know if they don't agree cause they WILL tell you, they stick by your side. Then when it was the wrong decision, maybe after they said I told you so once or twice, they are right there with a cup of coffee and tissues.
Friends, there there for you. They'll ask questions, the ones you really really don't know the answer to becuase they care. They don't care what hour. They don't judge how many glasses of wine you've had, usually they try to up one on you. You laugh so hard together that you might pee your pants and then the next day when you try to explain it to someone, it doesn't make since at all. They are there on your very special days. The most important thing, they are there, always.
I'm blessed to have my crew of friends. We just... we mesh well and in the end that's what really matters.

Glue
I'm joining in on Lisa-Jo baker's 'Five Minute Friday'.
The rules are pretty simple. One word. Five minutes of writing. No editing.
I'll just be honest here. The first thing I thought of with the word 'glue' is good ol' Elmer's white glue.
It took me back for a while. The first time in Kindergarten when my teacher told me a little dot will go a long way. Then all the sudden I was looking at a puddle of white glue on my paper.
The next flash was a few years later when we learned that you could take glue and put it in your hand spread it all around and let it dry and get a replica of what the inside of your hand looks like.
Flash a few more years and I'm starting to get the whole a dot of glue thing.
Then a few more years go by and my children at a young age are 'helping' Mom glue bills together. Cause what else do you do with your paper bill once you have it paid.
There was always that one kid that took it to the next step and tried tasting it... I never made it that far and the boys haven't either... that's not to say they won't. We still have a few years of tempting fate yet.
It's amazing all the different parts of life that this little ol' bottle of glue has been through with me. It's stuck with me.
And then of course there's this song..;.
Stuck like glue... you and me baby... we're stuck like glue.
Also this reminds me... The getting a replica of your hand thing DOES NOT work on your hair, you've been warned.

Paint
I'm joining in on Lisa-Jo baker's 'Five Minute Friday'.
The rules are pretty simple. One word. Five minutes of writing. No editing.
Do you feel that? Do you see those paint brush strokes? The swirls? Can you feel the pride that this brought to one young boy? Can you remember the smell of fresh opened paint?
Something about my children's art always makes me glow from the inside out. It's a small piece of them. It's a peek inside for just a moment.
I can get extremely caught up in the perfections that school tries to teach. All the spelling tests, math homework, speed reading, the list goes on and on. When they bring art work home, it's a breath of fresh air. It screams to me, stop and take this in. This is a their work. This is what they felt at one particular moment in one part of their day away their parents, their siblings. This is them.
They meshed colors, they molded shapes, for Pete's sake maybe just maybe they got to feel like a child in this crazy fast paced world! Or maybe that yellow stain in their jeans, it was from their hard work in art class... of course it could have been mustard from the french fries too BUT just take it all in.
Bringing primary colors together to make secondary colors. To mold their learning into a piece of art that will hang on our fridge for months because it emanates beauty. AND it stays on the fridge because this Momma has yet to make one of those awesome art walls that you can find on Pinterest with cool frames and clipboards.
Maybe this weekend I'll challenge myself to let my children be children and break out the paints and just paint to paint. No instructions, no stay in the lines, paint. Get messy. Glow.

Writer
I'm joining in on Lisa-Jo baker's 'Five Minute Friday'.
The rules are pretty simple. One word. Five minutes of writing. No editing.
I have been blessed to have a best friend since... well... third grade... I think it was. This beautiful girl that had the most stunning personality. She shines in everything that she does. For some reason she allowed me to be a part of her life. I can't tell you what it means to have that one friend that no matter where you are literally or figuratively in life you can call or text and know that your understood. Your meaning not taken out of context but the true meaning of your feelings being understood. Sometimes I don't even have to say much and I get the "I know, girl, I know".
One thing about this exquisite soul is her ability to nail down words. Forming them to create the most beautifully created reading. I mean blow your mind reading. She is a writer. I'll be honest there has definitely been a few times that I've envied her talent. One of many that she has. She is an artist, not just with words but in drawing and creating beauty in everything that she touches.
I always feel like I fall short next to her. You know who Goofy is? Yeah, I typically feel like my writing next to hers is more like Goofy writing to Shakespeare. It's like that. The thing is, I keep writing. I know it's not as good as hers, I've just had to accept that through the years. I realized that when we would be writing notes back and forth and she would have this awesome note with cool sayings and pictures. All I got out was "Guhumph, I went to PE."
I don't know that I have a true point in all this. Maybe all I wanted to get out is that I have one hardcore BFF. Or maybe I just wanted to write because no matter the style or the grace everyone has a little writer in them. So keep on.
