Friend

I'm joining in on Lisa-Jo baker's 'Five Minute Friday'.
The rules are pretty simple. One word. Five minutes of writing. No editing.

I'll admit it... I totally avoided writing this post. One, I had a ton of things I wanted to say. Two, I wanted the post to be one that you read and just were drawn to cry because of the beauty. Three, when I started to think of all the things that came to mind with the word friend, I started to cry.

See the thing is a friend a real true friend, to me, is family. Family is sort of who God thought "Hey, I know how to make you a well rounded person. I'm going to give you some very wise Grandparents, silly Aunts, wild Uncles, embarrassing Parents, goofball Brothers and maybe a serious Sister or two."... at least I'm pretty sure that's what he did with my family. Friends on the other hand... that's the family that you get to pick out.

Friends, they are the family that God was like "Hey, now that you have this family that I made for you. I'm gonna throw you a bone to deal with them. Here are some really cool peeps that you should meet". Again, I'm pretty sure that's what happened.

Through the years you make friends. Some last a few months, a few years and some a life time.

I'm not sure who it was but some dude or dudette said that if you can count your friends on one hand consider yourself blessed. In high school I was all like, "BAM! I have 164 friends, take that". Then in college I upped some more. I lost a few and gained some... it's sort of like weight. Those that didn't really matter I lost but those that you really wanted to lose they stuck around. The ones that you really wanted to keep, let's be real the boob weight, you don't even think about loosing.

Then life really started happening and 'friends' start dropping, unlike weight. That is when friends really shine. You go through real life events and even if they aren't sure that they agree with your decision, you'll know if they don't agree cause they WILL tell you, they stick by your side. Then when it was the wrong decision, maybe after they said I told you so once or twice, they are right there with a cup of coffee and tissues.

Friends, there there for you. They'll ask questions, the ones you really really don't know the answer to becuase they care. They don't care what hour. They don't judge how many glasses of wine you've had, usually they try to up one on you. You laugh so hard together that you might pee your pants and then the next day when you try to explain it to someone, it doesn't make since at all. They are there on your very special days. The most important thing, they are there, always.

I'm blessed to have my crew of friends. We just... we mesh well and in the end that's what really matters.
