Book Log: The Color Purple
The Color Purple
By: Alice Walker
FOUR out of FIVE stars
my thoughts:
Truth. That's what really seeps out of this book. I want to say how great this book is but it's filled with trials and terrible thigs that happen. It's great in the fact that it's written in raw truth. There isn't any sugar coating what happend in Celie's life. VERY raw. If you are easily offended by brutal words or physical acts, this book is not for you.
Celie absolutly shines to me. She is put through some terrible trials. She faces each day so bravily. She finds her talent and pushes on with it. Along her journey she finds her talent and taps into it. Making her dreams that she never knew about blossom.
the run down:
Celie is a poor black woman whose letters tell the story of 20 years of her life, beginning at age 14 when she is being abused and raped by her father and attempting to protect her sister from the same fate, and continuing over the course of her marriage to “Mister,” a brutal man who terrorizes her. Celie eventually learns that her abusive husband has been keeping her sister’s letters from her and the rage she feels, combined with an example of love and independence provided by her close friend Shug, pushes her finally toward an awakening of her creative and loving self.
